“Why?” How often do you hear that word? How often do you ask that word? If you are around a toddler for any length of time, you hear it a lot! My 2-year-old granddaughter is at that stage where she asks a question, you answer, and then the immediate response is “why?” You answer why, and, once again, “why?” Over and over the cycle goes.

If you’re honest, though, the desire to know why doesn’t stop as we grow older. We still want to know, but we lose the courage to ask or, maybe, even the courage to hear the answer. I’ve heard different answers to what our “Christian” questions should be: “Don’t ask why, ask why not?,” “Why NOT me?” or “Don’t ask why, ask who?”: “Who allowed this?”, “Who does this glorify?”, “Who am I that this NOT happen to me?” or Ask how?: “How will God use this?”, “How can good come from this?”

Once again, if we are honest, we just want to ask “why?” and know the answer. God’s ultimate desire is for us to know Him, glorify Him, and be conformed to the image of His Son. If we look to Jesus as the Son of Man and the Son of God, when He was upon the cross, He too asked, “why?”. “My God, my God, why have you forsaken Me?” Just like us in our humanity. “Why, God?” Jesus knew the answer, but He still asked the question. It is just a part of being human.

So, you may ask, “Why ‘One Dawning Light’? Why a website? Why a ‘One Dawning Light’ blog?” Well, I absolutely love the Word of God, Jesus Himself! He is the Word made flesh and when I am reading my Bible, I get to know Him more and more. The more I learn, the more I want to share with others. I can’t contain it! One Dawning Light is a way I can share on a regular basis. I have written and published a book and am in the process of working on two more books, but I want to share on a more regular basis than that. Thus, this blog. The One Dawning Light website is a place where you can find all of that: the blog, my books and resources, and even a way to contact me with questions, comments, and requests for signings and speaking engagements.

Ultimately, One Dawning Light is the calling God has placed on my life. I am to be One Dawning Light. First and foremost, to my family, but God has also called me to shine His light to many more, just as He has called every one of His children to be a light. Jesus has seven ‘I AM’ statements in the book of John. The only one that you and I are also called to be is a light. This world can be a dark and lonely place. Your mind can get to a dark place. We need bright, shining light to remind us of the goodness of God, the warmth of love surrounding us, and the bright hope of our future with Him. One Dawning Light is designed to remind you of these things. It is me, in my down-to-earth, authentic, and casual voice illuminating thought-provoking insights from everyday life and God’s Word, encouraging and equipping you to live the abundant, purpose-filled life God created you for!
